Don’t leave the house without them
Don’t leave the house without them
Whether you’re running errands in your area or embarking on a road trip across the country, if your pet is going, there are a few pet travel essentials that should always be in your car.
You love to take your pet everywhere. But you never know when a flat tire, a family emergency, or a chance to go on an adventure can change plans. Keep your pet travel essentials in your car and you’ll be ready to run a dime.
keep tidy
clings! I can already hear you thinking, “Just what I need…more stuff in my car!” And I got it. That’s why I recommend the seat back organizer. They come in different shapes and sizes, so look for one that has plenty of pockets to hold everything you need.
Pet Travel Essentials
Now that you’re ready to go, it’s time to gather the following pet travel essentials:
pet restrictions
The most important component of any pet-friendly road trip is a way to restrain your pet in the car. You can choose a carrier or a safe box. Or use crash-tested seat belt harnesses like us. Either way, making sure you all come back safely is always the first priority.
water
The second most important thing to pack for your pet (and yourself) is water. We always have a few BPA free refillable water bottles in the car.
If you stop working for any reason – especially on a hot day – not having enough water can be dangerous. So make sure to fill up the bottles every time you leave .
travel bowl
Scrubbing this water won’t do your pup much if you don’t have a bowl for him! Collapsible bowls are a great option for the car, as they detach carefully until needed.
first aid bag
Accidents happen, and a well-stocked first aid kit will come in handy if you or your dog sustains a minor injury.
Not all first aid kits are created equal! Make sure it contains all the items you will need to help your pet.
Trash bags
Dogs seem to have a knack for sensing when we’re not carrying bags of waste, and that’s the moment they decide to go! Having a healthy supply of waste bags on hand will ensure that you are never left… with the bag on hand.
pet wipes
Pre-moistened wipes are suitable for cleaning dirt of all kinds. And when you travel with pets, you can always count on a little messing around!
odor remover
If the pet mess you encounter smells bad, you’ll be glad you’ve put together a good pet odor eliminator.
Food and sweets
Miss a meal and you’ll have an unhappy pet on your hands! Dried pet food, such as The Honest Kitchen, is especially convenient because it takes up little space and, when mixed with water, helps your pet stay hydrated.
And of course, don’t forget to pack plenty of tempting treats to reward good road trip behavior!
Pro tip : Store all dog food and treats inside a zippered compartment in the seat back organizer. Otherwise, your pup may help himself while you focus on driving.
– I learned from experience after I “lost” an entire bag of candy.
medicine
If your pet needs medication, it’s always a good idea to take one or two doses with you. Then if you are late, you can still give your pet his medication on schedule. Pill holder is a convenient way to stay organized.
Vaccination records
Some dog parks, campgrounds, and daily dog grooming facilities require proof of vaccination. Put a copy of these records in your travel bag, and you won’t be arrested without them.
Flashlight
Sometimes it helps to shed more light on the topic.
Doji Shami
Rain, puddles, spontaneous drizzle on the beach… Sometimes dogs get wet. And when you need to dry it again, the microfiber towel works great and holds up small.
Additional steering
Keeping an extra leash on hand is a good idea, in case it breaks. It’s also great when you meet a lost dog who needs a little help getting home.
Pictures of your pet
If you and your pet get separated, having a photo printed allows you to quickly organize a search party and swipe the photo, or make posters to help locate it.
When it comes to traveling with your pets, being prepared makes all the difference! Before your next road trip, make sure you have all your pet travel essentials in the car and ready to go.
